The Champions Support Network returns

We’re pleased to announce that we have secured a financial boost from The Mayor of London Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), which will allow us to help to support proactive parents across three London boroughs, who themselves have conquered all the odds, to become Parent Champions for parents and carers in need of support, direction, and solutions for their complex problems.

The London Borough of Havering
The London Borough of Redbridge

The Champion Support Network originally began in late 2020 and with new funding, the extended programme will enable 225 families to be reached—in Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge—and enlist on a mentoring support programme between 1st July 2022 and 31 March 2023.

In response to the expressed need for informal support for families, and recognising that raising or caring for a young person can be challenging, we are training local parents and carers as mentors to support and help other parents and carers within their neighbourhood to access the services they need.

By releasing Parent Champions into the local community of Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, and Havering, parents and carers no longer need to feel isolated but can be guided in navigating the education, legal, health or social care systems as well as being equipped with methods for tackling behaviours that may lead to serious youth violence.

The ultimate aim will be to develop many other parents to become mentors so that no parent is left in isolation. While taking part, families will have access to supportive and suitable professionals as they navigate the challenges in their lives.

Please get in touch if you’d like to be part of a new community of parents and carers, equipped with the skills and knowledge to support other families in the local area. We’ve already started up a series of regular training workshops; see below for more info and how to join!

The Champions Support Network will provide a valuable helping hand for parents and carers out there, especially if you sometimes find that raising and caring for a young person is really challenging. This programme will provide a support structure that you can rely on and it will be one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have.
